Which obligations apply to adhesives and construction chemicals?

Adhesives, sealants and construction chemicals are mixtures under the CLP Regulation. Many need a hazard label, a safety data sheet and a poison centre notification with UFI code before they may be sold in the EU. Some product groups also have special mandatory statements.

Special mandatory statements

  • Superglue (cyanoacrylate): statement EUH202 is mandatory. It warns that the adhesive bonds skin and eyelids in seconds and must be kept out of the reach of children.
  • PU foam, PU adhesives and other products with diisocyanates from 0.1 %: training is mandatory for professional and industrial users, and the packaging carries a corresponding statement (REACH Annex XVII entry 74).
  • Products containing isocyanates in general: statement EUH204 on possible allergic reactions.
  • Decorative paints and varnishes: product category, VOC limit value and maximum VOC content under the Decopaint Directive, implemented in Germany by the ChemVOCFarbV.
