Who is the advice for?

For manufacturers, importers and distributors who want to offer a product in the EU for the first time or sell it in further countries, for example air fresheners, candles, cleaning products, vapes, craft and office supplies or technical chemicals. Manufacturers outside the EU learn which steps EU law requires before their product may be sold here and who in the supply chain is responsible.

Typical questions

  • Is my product hazardous under CLP, and what follows from that?
  • Do I need a safety data sheet, a poison centre notification, a biocide or EU-CEG notification?
  • What information must appear on the label and packaging?
  • What do I have to state when selling online?
  • What changes if I deliver to another country?

Label revision: checking label and packaging

We particularly recommend a label revision here, ideally before every reprint of the packaging. We check label and packaging as a whole:

  • Remove what is not needed: information, symbols or claims that are not required, are outdated or even cause problems. This includes generic environmental claims such as “environmentally friendly” without proof, which are no longer permitted under Directive (EU) 2024/825.
  • Recycling symbols of the target countries: whether the disposal and sorting information required in each country is present, correctly implemented and large enough, for example the Triman logo with sorting information in France or the material marking of packaging in Italy. From 12 August 2028 at the earliest, harmonised EU labelling under the Packaging Regulation (EU) 2025/40 will be added.
  • CLP label complete and in the right size: all mandatory information present and correct, minimum size of the label and the hazard pictograms under Annex I section 1.2.1 of the CLP Regulation. From 1 January 2028, minimum font size and line spacing from the CLP revision also apply.

You receive a list of deficiencies with specific corrections that your designer can transfer directly to the artwork.

General product safety

Since 13 December 2024 the EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) applies. Among other things, it requires information on the manufacturer and a responsible person in the EU. We show you how this fits together with the obligations under chemicals legislation.
