UFI code and poison centre notification

We generate your UFI code, prepare the poison centre notification (PCN) under Annex VIII of the CLP Regulation and submit it via the ECHA portal, for every EU country where you sell. EU law requires this before hazardous mixtures may be sold.

When is a poison centre notification mandatory?

Anyone who places a hazardous mixture on the EU market must submit information for emergency health response to the appointed bodies of the member states (Article 45 of the CLP Regulation). The notification is mandatory for mixtures classified for health or physical hazards. Mixtures classified only as hazardous to the environment are exempt.

This is an EU requirement for selling: without a notification for each country of sale, a hazardous mixture may not be placed on the market there. It applies equally to products made outside the EU; in that case the EU importer is responsible.

The notification is submitted in the harmonised format under Annex VIII via the ECHA portal. It gives your product a UFI (Unique Formula Identifier), which appears on the label. In an emergency, poison centres use it to retrieve the exact composition.

What we need from you

  • Safety data sheet of the product (also from outside the EU, we check it)
  • Complete formula or the supplier safety data sheets of the raw materials
  • Trade name(s), pack sizes and packaging type
  • Countries where the product is sold
  • Company details with VAT number (for the UFI code)

How it works

  1. You send us the documents by e-mail or WhatsApp.
  2. We check classification and notification duty and give you the price.
  3. We generate the UFI and prepare the dossier.
  4. After your approval we submit the notification.
  5. You receive the UFI, the submission report and guidance for your label.

Good to know

  • The UFI appears on the label with the prefix “UFI:”. For mixtures for industrial use only, it may be given in the safety data sheet instead.
  • If the composition changes beyond the permitted limits, a new UFI and an updated notification are required.
  • From 1 January 2027 distributors also have to notify if they sell a mixture under their own name or with their own label, or supply it to another EU member state where the information is not yet available (Article 45 CLP as amended by Regulation (EU) 2024/2865).
  • You can generate and check a UFI code yourself with our free UFI generator. It does not replace the poison centre notification.
  • We usually finish within 1 to 3 working days.
